Finding the right home for your family can be a challenge!
A little planning will go a long way as you begin your search. Use a three ring binder with tab inserts to help you stay organized. You can fill the binder with home fliers, notes, and references that you may want to access during your home search.
Begin the process by addressing these basics:
1. What is your price range?
Whether you are leasing or purchasing a home, you will need to have a price point in mind. If leasing, you should choose a monthly amount that you want to stick to. If purchasing, you will need to have a down payment, as well as a monthly mortgage amount in mind that you can comfortably afford.
2. Where do you want to live?
Consider all the places you and your family regularly travel to and focus on the surrounding neighborhoods. If you choose to enjoy the benefits of not living in a busy city, but need to regularly travel to the city, make sure you are able to afford the gas and wear on your automobiles that will be required.
3. What type of home are you looking for?
Be sure to choose a style that suits your needs and personality best. A dainty Victorian, for example, may not be a good match for a family with lots of children! Also, look carefully at the neighborhoods you visit when viewing homes. Make notes about anything that you particularly like, as well as anything that may be a problem for you, such as odd colored homes or unkempt yards.
4. What details are important to you?
Do you want more than one story? How many bathrooms and bedrooms do you desire? Large kitchen? Formal dining room? Do you need bonus spaces for a home office or family room?
5. What notes should you take?
What condition are the pipes and wiring in? Will you be able to afford coverage from RentersInsurance.com, as well as any repairs or regular maintenance that will need to be done?
